Why does a 30-year-old childless bachelor inspire us at First Baptist to serve children and families through We Heart Deer Park? Jesus placed immense value on children in His life and His death, and as His disciples we do too.
Jesus chewed out His followers when they tried to keep kids from distracting Him and instead welcomed the kids up to the best spot.
When Jesus' followers were arguing about who would be the most important Jesus radically redirected their ambition away from earthly fame and power and towards welcoming children in His name because to do so would be to bring God Himself near to them – and bringing God near is what Jesus is all about.
Jesus said that He came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many – including children. Jesus did not come to die and be resurrected to adopt just adults into His family, but children as well.
So we welcome kids to a place of priority in our homes, our church, and our community. We Heart Deer Park helps us at First Baptist to truly become Jesus' disciples as we treat kids how Jesus treats kids. We're excited to serve and not be served this August and we hope you'll join us in valuing children like Jesus does.
